Roses alba
Albas are some of the oldest of the old shrub roses, and are sometimes called rose-trees because of their erect habit. They are vigorous plants with a markedly grey-green foliage. They are hardy and therefore ideal in regions of late frost since they very wisely are late in budding in the spring. Their flowers are usually white or pinkish white, with an exquisite perfume of varying intensity. They are ideal for hedging, even with a northern exposure. They bloom only once a year.

Alba Maxima
Alba Maxima
This rose is also called the White Rose of York (emblem of the House of York in the War of the Roses against the Lancasters in the second half of the 15th century). It forms a tall upright bush with double flowers. The color is white, slightly pinkish upon opening. Scented. One-time bloomer.
Blanche de Belgique

Vigorous shrub that generously carries in late spring pure, translucent pink flowers that open from elongated and very elegant buds. Exquisite perfume. One-time bloomer.

Chloris

Great Maiden's Blush
Great Maiden's Blush
Very old, one of the most beloved of the Alba roses. The leaves are grey-green, and are nicely contrasted with the very double flesh pink flowers with a sophisticated perfume. The bush is large and upright. One-time bloomer.

Königin Von Dänemark
Slightly arching shrub with perfectly formed, quartered flowers and a superb scent. It is considered the most beautiful of all the Albas because the color of the petals is a more intense, deeper pink. One-time bloomer.
Mme Legras de St. Germain
Mme Legras de St. Germain
White flowers, very double, with the lightest yellow shadowing at the base of the petals. Long thin stems on a shrub that can be used as a small climber. Excellent scent. Once-blooming.
Mme Plantier
Mme Plantier
This rose is probably a hybrid between an Alba rose and R. moschata (the Musk Rose). It can be grown as a small climber or a shrub. The grey-green foliage complements beautifully the white flowers, which once opened, have a light yellow glow. Completely open, a central green eye is visible. The perfume is sweet and strong. One-time bloomer.

R. x Alba semi-plena
Semi-double form of Alba Maxima. A tall and vigorous shrub that in the spring is covered in white blooms. Nice fall hips. Scented. Once-blooming.
