Roses noisette
These roses appeared on the scene approximately the same time as the Portland and Bourbon roses. A rice grower from South Carolina was offered as a gift the China rose Parson’s Pink. He crossed this with Rosa moschata, and then presented some of the resulting plants to his neighbor, Philippe Noisette. This well known horticulturist sent seeds and plants to his brother Louis in Paris. The first ‘Noisette’ roses were born. Their fame is well-deserved as they are strong, free growing, and re-blooming with large sprays of flowers. They also added a new gamut of colors, especially yellow, to the rather dull-colored ramblers of that time. The colors vary from cream to intense gold, passing through many shades of pink. Flower size varies, the form resembles the early tea roses. Their perfume is generally fruity, and almost all are climbers.
